Inside Medres R&D: What “Connect. Create. Deliver.” Means in Real Life

An interview with Bulcsú Simonyi, R&D Director at Medres

After two decades in the medtech industry, Medres has stepped into the spotlight with a renewed identity and a new guiding line: Connect. Create. Deliver. It reflects how the company truly works — from understanding customer needs to turning ideas into manufacturable surgical solutions.

We sat down with Bulcsú Simonyi, R&D Director, to discuss what this principle means at Medres R&D — and how it shapes the creation of next-generation surgical devices.

“Connect. Create. Deliver.” sounds simple. What does it mean in R&D?

For us, it’s a mindset. Connect means building a shared understanding with the customer — what success looks like and what users really need. Create means turning that insight into tangible, manufacturable design. And Deliver means making sure the final device performs safely and reliably in real surgical use.

Let’s start with “Connect.” What does that look like?

Every project starts with listening. Before any design sketch, we spend time in what we call the alignment phase. Recently, a client asked us to continue developing a partly finished handheld electrosurgical device. Instead of rushing ahead, we stepped back into the alignment phase — reviewing what was done, what was missing, and redefining the scope together. That clarity helped us move forward efficiently and avoid later redesigns.

Then comes “Create.” How does creativity fit into structure?

Our structured development process ensures compliance and traceability, but it also gives us freedom to explore within clear boundaries. That’s where real creativity happens. A good example is a resection system project where we had strict performance targets — speed, accuracy, and safety — but freedom in how to achieve them. Our teams explored several sensing and blade geometry solutions within the defined process and found a simpler configuration that improved precision without adding complexity. Creativity here means using the process as a framework for intelligent experimentation.

And “Deliver”? What makes that phase special at Medres?

Deliver is where engineering meets reality. It’s not just about handing over drawings — it’s about making sure the device works as intended and can be built efficiently. That’s why usability is key from the very beginning — we design for the working hand. Our engineers join cadaver and OR testing sessions, observing directly how surgeons work, what feels natural, and what could be improved. That first-hand insight is invaluable and feeds directly back into design refinement.

For example, during an endoscopic development, ergonomic fatigue was a key issue. By watching procedures and integrating feedback early, we could adapt the design before final validation.

And from the start, we design for manufacturing and cost-efficiency — because innovation only matters if it can be produced reliably, at scale, and with consistent quality.

What makes the Medres R&D team stand out?

Our strongest differentiator is customer focus. Every project starts with understanding the client’s vision — seeing it through their eyes: what success means and how our solution can make a real difference. That alignment stays with us throughout development, guiding every step from concept to delivery.
